Qualifications
The first time a student’s cumulative GPA drops below 2.00, the student is placed on academic warning and will receive a letter indicating the student’s status and the consequences of being on academic warning. Students who are placed on Academic Warning will have a hold placed on their account to prevent registration until requirements are met.  

Requirements to Complete

• Academic Success Workhop Student must attend a workshop either in person (preferred) or online.  The workshop will focus on strategies for success, understanding GPA's, and helpful resources available to students at ³ÉÈ˶¶ÒôÆƽâ°æ. 
• Advisor Meeting  Students should meet individually with the academic advisor to discuss their academic success and understanding of the academic standing policy.  The student should discuss their courseload, options to repeat courses, academic renewal, time management and study strategies at this meeting.  

Next Steps
To return to Academic Good Standing, the student must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 in the following semester.  If the student's GPA remains below a 2.0 at the end of the following semester, the student will be placed on Academic Probation.

Qualifications

If a student on academic warning fails to increase cumulative GPA to at least 2.00 (after completion of 30 or more credit hours), then the student will be placed on probation.

Registration Restrictions

• Maximum courseload of 12 credit hours (13 if one course has a lab)
• Registration must be approved by the Assistant Dean and completed by A&S Advising Center.  Please complete the in consultation with your academic advisor and submit to LA 324A for approval. 

Registration Procedure

1. Student will make an appointment with his/her departmental academic advisor.
2. The student will complete the top portion of the form prior to the advising appointment.
3. The student and the advisor will develop a completed schedule of preferred and alternative courses. Be sure to list course code and section. Example: ENG 101 005.
4. The advisor will put the preferred courses in the student’s My³ÉÈ˶¶ÒôÆƽâ°æ registration cart.
5. The advisor and student will sign the Schedule Approval From and the student will return the form to LA 324A or email directly to Amy Racke (Rackea@nku.edu).

Next Steps
To return to Good Standing, students must earn a 2.0 cumulative GPA.  It may not be possible for students on probation to earn a 2.0 in a single semester.  In this case, students must earn a 2.0 semester GPA in order and will remain on Probation for multiple semesters until a cumulative 2.0 GPA is earned.  

Failure to earn a 2.0 semester GPA will result in suspension from the university. 

Qualifications

Students who are on Academic Probation and do not earn a semester gpa of 2.0 are suspended from the university for one academic semester (fall or spring).  

Requirements

To return to the university, students must request a reinstatement from the Assistant Dean.  To be reinstated, student will need to have an in-person meeting with the Assistant Dean and submit a reflective essay discussing how they plan to make improvements for academic success upon return.  

Next Steps
After returning to ³ÉÈ˶¶ÒôÆƽâ°æ, students will remain on Probation and must earn a semester GPA of 2.0 each semester until the cumulative GPA rises over a 2.0.  Failure to earn a 2.0 semester GPA will again result in the student being suspended.
